DONning in LonDON : Part-1
Recently I got a chance to visit London City. It all started in December. A training was to be imparted to some Delhi Metro employees. Didn't know I will be one of the lucky ones. After the list was declared, started the research work. Questions were straight :
1. Where to stay in affordable rates?
2. How to travel as travelling is something that can cost you more than your hotel bill!
3. How to manage training with exploring the city?
I took the initiative to do it for all of us. I fired up my laptop and jumped into the battlefield with all my tools :)
As most of the tourist attractions lie in and around Central London I decided the best place to live will be near to it. Our training centre was in Basingstoke City and the best way to travel between the two cities is by South-West Trains. South-West trains ply services from Waterloo Station which is also in Central London. Thus I looked for hotels in Central London Waterloo area. I zeroed in on Travelodge as they were offering 20% discount on pre-booking.
Next was to book travel tickets from London to Basingstoke. This one can do by using Season Ticket option. It gives you a great value for money and comes in different variants like 7-day, 1-month etc. Another good option is Returning ticket. Using these two options you can save upto 50% of travelling cost. Then I have to think of travelling around in London. The best way I found to travel around London City is Oyster Card. It is also the best option for traversing between Heathrow Airport and London.
This is all for this part. In the next part I will share what we did and how we enjoyed in London. A glance into city that is home to Madame Tussaud's and Sherlock Holmes, the one and only Consulting Detective.
